Dehydration is a spectrum that ranges from mild, medium to severe. At some point, we have all experience some level of dehydration, and have been in need of fluids. Our whole body depends on water to function, and the more water we ingest, the more effective our bodily functions will be! Keeping yourself hydrated is important, and so is paying attention to and listening to what your body needs. Here are 20 signs that you are not drinking enough water.

1. Lack of Sweating

If you are not sweating during workouts, that could be an indication that you are not drinking enough water! If you are dehydrated, your body can actually stop sweating completely. This can be dangerous for many reasons, but especially because sweating is our body’s natural defense against overheating, as sweating regulates our core temperature. Without that natural defense, you put yourself at risk of over-heating, which can be deadly.

2. Bad Breath

When you are dehydrated, your body has trouble producing enough salvia, which keeps bacteria at bay. When you are not producing enough saliva, you can experience bacteria overgrowth. The biggest side effect of bacteria overgrowth is stinky breath and dry mouth.

3. Dry Skin

Dehydration directly affects your blood volume! Not getting enough water will reduce your blood volume, and decrease circulation/supply to your skin, which in turn can cause dry skin. In addition, as dry skin is non-evaporating, you can suffer from flushing, as well.

4. Extreme Thirst

Being thirsty is your body’s natural way of telling you that it needs water. If you are extremely, and uncomfortably thirsty, that means you are dehydrated and are in need of fluids immediately. Do yourself a favor and listen to your body! It knows what it needs.
